Political prospects in Brazil

With Eduardo Viola as guest speaker, CADAL organized another meeting of Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires at the University of CEMA. During his presentation, Eduardo Viola, talked about the economic stagnation in Dilma Rouseff’s administration, corruption and the deterioration of the democracy quality and the prospects for the general elections in 2014. The Forum was moderated by Sybil Rodhes, Director of the Master in International Studies (UCEMA) and academic counselor of CADAL.

With Eduardo Viola as guest speaker, CADAL organized another meeting of Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires at the University of CEMA. This time, the professor at the University of Brasilia and academic counselor CADAL set out views of the subject “Brasil, economy and politics: present and perspectives”.

During his presentation, Eduardo Viola, talked about following issues: Brazil’s economy stagnation in DilmaRouseff’s administration (2011-2014); the exhaustion of the growth model based on the change of the relative international prices and the expansion of consumption; the outbreak of the social unrest; corruption and deterioration of the democracy quality and the prospects for the general elections in 2014.

Eduardo Viola is Professor at the Instituteof International Relations at the University of Brasilia. He holds a PhD inPolitical Science and has been guest professor in several American and European universities: Stanford, Colorado, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Amsterdam and Bonn. He is member of several Brazilian and international scientific committees and has published oncomparative political systems, globalization and governance, international environment policy, international security and inter- American relations. He was born in Argentina and is naturalized Brazilian citizen. He is Academic Council of the Centerfor the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL).
