12-02-2025

Gathering in Solidarity with the Artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara

To mark the anniversary of the adoption of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 1988 breakfast in Prague between François Mitterrand and Václav Havel, and the birthday of the Cuban artist and political prisoner, the Czech Republic Embassy and CADAL hosted the launch of Oscar Grandío Moráguez’s book “Mejor no me callo: Notas ante una transición en Cuba” (“Better If I Don’t Stay Silent: Notes on a Transition in Cuba”).

The event took place at the Czech Republic Embassy headquarters in Buenos Aires, with the support of Civil Rights Defenders.

Opening remarks were delivered by Jarmila Povejšilová, the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Argentina. The book was discussed by Rut Diamint, professor at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, and the author, Oscar Grandío Moráguez, spoke at the end.

Oscar Grandío Moráguez is a historian and political scientist. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Political Relations from ISRI (Cuba), a Master’s in Asian and African Studies from El Colegio de México, and a PhD in History from York University (Canada). He has taught at universities in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
