Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara turned 37 in a Cuban prison, accused of Orwellian crimes that criminalize the human rights to freedom of expression, association, peaceful assembly and demonstration. Otero Alcantara visited Buenos Aires twice, invited by CADAL, in 2018 and 2019. In addition, in October 2018, he spoke alongside Tania Bruguera on a panel organized by CADAL during Forum 2000 in Prague. Recently, Otero Alcántara was recognized with the RAFTO Prize (Norway).
The event was opened by H.E. Jarmila Povejšilová, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Argentina; Filip Kanda, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Argentina; and Gabriel C. Salvia, General Director of CADAL.
The concert was in charge of the Cuban musicians of “Atemporal trio”, integrated by Mario Miguel García Piña, Noslen Porrúa and Jessica Zequeira, who performed songs from their own repertoire (Tres voces para un lamento, Cada noche y casual, Se trata de ti y de mi, Zusel, Todos hacemos mundo, Barrio Abrázame and Quédate conmigo), the “forbidden songs” (La estaca and Nuestro día ya viene llegando), one song dedicated to Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and the San Isidro Movement (Damas 955), as well as closing with the pacifist anthem of the Argentine duo from the 70's, Pastoral, performing “Humanos”.
