The ceremony was held at Cine Arte Cacodelphia in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and was preceded by a preview screening of the documentary “Humanos”, about international democratic solidarity during the military dictatorship of 1976–1983.
The ceremony opened with an introduction on Graciela Fernández Meijide’s legacy and its relevance today, delivered by Rubén Chababo, one of the four members of the jury for the Graciela Fernández Meijide Award, organised by CADAL.
Jury member Vicente Palermo presented the award for Anacleto Micha, a political prisoner in Equatorial Guinea, whose plaque was accepted by Alfredo Okenve. Jury member Eduardo Ulibarri presented the award for Kim Jung-Wook, Choi Chun-Gil and Kim Kook-Kie, political prisoners in North Korea. The plaque was accepted on their behalf by María Lasa, author of the book “Land of Vinylon: My Journey to North Korea”. Finally, jury member Inés Pousadela presented the award for Yalqun Rozi, a political prisoner in China, whose plaque was accepted by Rishat Abbas.
