The eleventh edition of this conference was organized with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, with the support of the Undersecretariat for Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism of the City of Buenos Aires and was held at the Espacio Aguaribay.
The conference was opened by Sybil Rhodes, Chairman of CADAL; Susanne Käss, Representative in Argentina of Konrad Adenauer Foundation; and Pamela Malewicz, Undersecretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
The first panel of the conference dealt with "Human rights in the relations with China", with the participation of Filip Kanda, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Argentina; Gabriela Ippólito-O'Donnell, political scientist; and virtually Juan Pablo Cardenal, editor of "Análisis Sínico: Descifrando China" and Tereluz Flores, from Red Internacional por el Tíbet (International Network for Tibet). This panel was moderated by Gabriel C. Salvia, General Director of CADAL.
The second panel was entitled "Argentina 75 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and 40 years after the return to democracy", had as speakers Norma Morandini, journalist, writer and Vice-president of CADAL; Vicente Palermo, political scientist and academic advisor of CADAL; and Fernando J. Ruiz, political scientist and academic advisor of CADAL. This panel was moderated by Rubén Chababo, Bachelor of Arts and academic advisor of CADAL.
The third panel, moderated by Elisa Trotta, diplomat and human rights activist, was entitled "50 years after the military coup in Chile and Uruguay" and had as speakers journalist Nelson Fernández and Patricio Navia, political scientist and academic advisor of CADAL.
During the conference, the first edition of the Graciela Fernández Meijide Award for the defense of human rights was presented in the presence of the former secretary of the National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons (CONADEP).
Mario Polanco, Director of Fundación Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo de Guatemala, received the award in the organization category.
Alain Espinosa received the award on behalf of Librado Linares, who won the award in the activist category and was prevented by the Cuban dictatorship from leaving the country to travel to Buenos Aires.
Atemporal trio, composed of Jessica Zequeira, Noslen Porrúa and Mario Miguel García performed Forbidden songs.
An exhibition of Cuban graphic humor mounted by El Toque and CADAL was also offered at the site of the event.
The conference was attended by diplomats, politicians, journalists, academics, human rights representatives, university students and representatives of other civil society organizations.
