The first months of the government of José Mujica in Uruguay

Tomás Linn was the guest speaker at Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires to analyze the current politics of Uruguay. Among other issues, the columnist of the weekly Búsqueda referred to the intention of Mujica to modernize and open the country; the dialogue with the opposition on key issues like urban security, education and State reform; the signals that contradict the rethoric of the president with his party; and the relations of Uruguay with Argentina.

With the participation of journalist Tomás Linn as guest speaker, CADAL organized at its office a new meeting of Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires. In this opportunity, the columnist of the weekly Búsqueda analyzed "The first months of the government of José Mujica in Uruguay". The activity was sponsored by Hotel Boutique AWA de Punta del Este.

During his presentation, Linn referred to the following issues: The interest of Mujica to modernize and open the country; the dialogue with the opposition on key matters: urban security, education and state reform; some signals that contradict the rethoric of the president with his party; and the relations of Uruguay and Argentina regarding Botnia and the veredict of Hague. Among the assistants were officers from the Embassies of Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Norway, New Zealand, Australia and the European Union.

Tomás Linn is columnist of the weekly "Búsqueda" since 1989 and professor of journalism in the Universidad de Montevideo. After finishing his studies at Escuela Superior de Periodismo (Instituto Grafotécnico) of Buenos Aires, he began his career at El Diario de Montevideo on 1974. He worked in radio, TV and during a brief period at Reuters. He was secretary of the weeklies Opción and Aquí during the 80s. He has a degree in Communications at Universidad Católica de uruguay and he was Humphrey Fellow at University of Maryland (College Park) between 1995 and 1996. He wrote five books. Two of them refer to journalistic subjects: "De buena fuente" (1989) and "Pasión, Rigor y Libertad" (1999). The other three are on current politics: “Los Temas sobre la Mesa” (1994), “Los Nabos de Siempre” (2004) and “Así concebidas: Nuestras democracias imperfectas” (2008).
