The conference included an emotional homage to Cecilia de la Torre (1962-2016), one of the legislators that proposed the adoption of the City of Buenos Aires’ Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarianism.
A video titled “Solidarity with Current Victims of Human Rights Abuses” was screened, which included testimonies by Hassan Sheikh (Somalia), Kim Hyeong Soo and Eunkyoung Kwon (North Korea), Reem Khalifa (Bahrain), Alex Bialiatski (Belarus), María Mercedes Benítez González and Manuel Cuesta Morúa (Cuba), Anastasia Zotova (Russia), Farid Tukhbatullin (Turkmenistan), Antonio Karam (Tibet) and Radwan Ziadeh (Syria).
During the closing of the event, CADAL Secretary Bernabé García Hamilton awarded Chilean author and diplomat Jorge Edwards the Special Prize for Committed Diplomacy.
