On Friday, July 25, CADAL organized a new meeting of Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires, where journalist Nelson Fernández gave a presentation on "Uruguay pointing to 2009". The Forum was moderated by journalist Jorge Rosales. Among the audience there were journalists, young professionals and diplomats from Sweden, Norway and Poland.
In his presentation, Fernández referred to the following subjects: Economic and social evolution; Party political panorama; the State of public opinion; Candidates definitions: Frente Amplio assures a second period?; Will Tabaré Vázquez be able to impose his Minister of Finance as the candidate for Frente Amplio?; Will Movimiento Tupamaro defy the leader from the left and promote senator José Mujica to compete in primaries?; What are the chances of Partido Nacional to win the next elections?; Will former President Luis Alberto Lacalle be able to overcome Jorge Larrañaga?; Who will be the candidate for the "blancos" as alternative to Frente Amplio?; Does Partido Colorado have any chance of recovery?; Will Julio María Sanguinetti agree to the demands of colorados to be the candidate, compete agains Bordaberry and set the party as an alternative?
Nelson Fernández is Correspondant in Uruguay for La Nación newspaper in Buenos Aires, columnist of the weekly "Búsqueda", columnist of Radio Sarandí, professor of Written Journalism at Universidad Católica del Uruguay and Officer of CADAL's representation in Uruguay.
