With the participation of guest speaker H.E. Patricia Holmes, CADAL held its latest Diplomatic Forum. With the title “Australia and the G20 in 2014: Growth and Employment in the World,” Ambassador Holmes referred to Australia’s presidency of the G20 in 2014, the objectives of the leaders’ summit, to take place in Brisbane, and how the G20 can achieve its objectives in global growth and employment, trade, infrastructure investment, taxes and the role of the private sector.
Ambassador Patricia Holmes is a top Foreign Service officer from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Before her appointment as Ambassador to Argentina (as well as Paraguay and Uruguay), she was the General Director for Legal Affairs, a position which she had held since April, 2010. She has also previously held positions in the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva (Consultant, 2006-2009), Papua-New Guinea (First Secretary, 1998-2000) and in Vanuatu (Third Secretary, later rising to Second Secretary, 1994-1996). In 2013 she also served on a panel for conflict solution for the WTO in Geneva. Ambassador Holmes holds a B.S. in Law from the University of Macquarie, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the University of Technology, Sydney; a Masters of Arts in Foreign Affairs and Trade from the University of Monash and a Masters in Environmental Law from the Australian National University. She registered as a lawyer in New South Wales and in the Australian Capital Territory in 1992. Ambassador Holmes speaks Spanish, is in a relationship and has three children.
This edition of the Diplomatic Forum took place in the Universidad del CEMA (Ucema) and was moderated by Carlos Gervasoni, academic advisor and founding member of CADAL. After the event there was a toast to celebrate the 11th anniversary of CADAL.
