CADAL adhirió a la declaración conjunta de ONGs sobre el peligro de la campaña de “difamación de religiones” de la ONU
La declaración suscripta por 188 ONG's, manifiesta profundamente su preocupación ante la posibilidad de que en ciertos países se utilicen resoluciones contra la “difamación de religiones” para silenciar e intimidar a activistas de derechos humanos, disidentes religiosos y otras voces independientes.
Nosotros, las organizaciones no gubernamentales firmantes,
Profundamente preocupados por la dominante y creciente campaña de la Organización de la Conferencia Islámica (OCI) para obtener resoluciones, declaraciones y conferencias mundiales de la ONU que propaguen el concepto de “difamación de religiones”, un concepto que no tiene fundamentos legales domésticos ni internacionales, y que alteraría el significado mismo de los derechos humanos, que protegen a los individuos de la opresión, pero no a las creencias de ser evaluadas críticamente;
Profundamente preocupados por el intento de abusar de la ONU para legalizar leyes contra la blasfemia, que restringirían la libertad de religión, la libertad de expresión y la libertad de prensa;
Profundamente preocupados por la posibilidad de que en ciertos países se utilicen resoluciones contra la “difamación de religiones” para silenciar e intimidar a activistas de derechos humanos, disidentes religiosos y otras voces independientes;
Alarmados por la resolución sobre “difamación de religiones” recientemente presentada en la actual 10ª sesión del Consejo de Derechos Humanos de la ONU;
Alarmados por el proyecto de resolución sobre la libertad de expresión circulado por Egipto, cuyas enmiendas pretenden restringir, no promover, las protecciones para la libertad de expresión;
Alarmados por la iniciativa de la ONU llamada “Comité ad hoc sobre Estándares Complementarios”, anunciada recientemente para enmendar la Convención Internacional sobre la Eliminación de todas las Formas de Discriminación Racial (CIEFDR) al agregarle un protocolo sobre la “difamación de religiones”;
Alarmados por las provisiones en el más reciente proyecto de declaración de la Conferencia de Examen de Durban, las cuales a través de lenguaje cifrado y referencias indirectas apoyan y animan estas iniciativas antidemocráticas;
1. Solicitamos a todos los gobiernos que se opongan a la resolución sobre “difamación de religiones” que se está discutiendo actualmente en el Consejo de Derechos Humanos de la ONU, así como a las provisiones objetables en la resolución sobre libertad de expresión;
2. Solicitamos a todos los gobiernos que resistan los esfuerzos del “Comité ad hoc sobre Estándares Complementarios” por alterar la CIEFDR;
3. Solicitamos a todos los gobiernos que no acepten o legitimen un resultado de la Conferencia de Examen de Durban que apoye directa o indirectamente la campaña de “difamación de religiones”, a costa de las libertades básicas y los derechos humanos individuales.
