With the participation of Patricio Navia as guest speaker and the sponsorship of Fundación Konrad Adenauer and Bodegas San Huberto, CADAL organized a new meeting of Foro Latinoamericano Buenos Aires, in this case dedicated to present an X-ray of the current discontent in Chile.
In his presentation, Patricio Navia referred to the student's demonstrations, social movements, and the Chilean discontent with the social market economic model in function in the country since the military dictatorship, the arrival of the right wing to power after 20 years of center-left government of Concertación, the challenges of President Piñera in the building of a modern right to leave behind the ghost of the dictatorship, the difficulties of his first year and a half in government and what explains the current discontent in Chile.
The Forum was moderated by Bernabé García Hamilton, Coordinator of CADAL's Academic Council.
Patricio Navia is one of the most influential political analysts in Chile. He is professor of polticial science of New York University and at Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad Diego Portales. He is columnist of the newspaper La Tercera (Chile) and Buenos Aires Herald (Argentina). He is author of the book Las grandes alamedas. El Chile post Pinochet (2004). He has published articles in Comparative Political Studies, Journal of Democracy, Democratization and Social Science Quarterly. He has also published several chapters in books on Chile and Latin America. In Spanish he published articles in Estudios Públicos, Revista de Ciencia Política, Perspectivas, Política y Gobierno (Mexico), and Anuario FLACSO. He is member of CADAL's Academic Council.
