President Mujica: Uruguay from an international perspective

With the participation of the journalists Nelson Fernández and Claudio Paolillo as speakers, CADAL organized at boutique Hotel AWA the first Foro Latinoamericano Punta del Este with the objective of analyzing “Mujica as president: Uruguay from an international perspective: The new eastern government: politics and economics 2010-2015''.

With the participation of the journalists Nelson Fernández and Claudio Paolillo as speakers, CADAL organized at boutique Hotel AWA the first Foro Latinoamericano Punta del Este.

The forum focused on “Mujica as president: Uruguay from an international perspective: The new eastern government: politics and economics 2010-2015".

Nelson Fernández referred to the economic policy: heritage and approach by the government of José Mujica; Uruguay-Argentina: relaunching a complex relationship; Argentine business in Uruguay: a view in perspective (financial, real estate, country), Mujica: continuity and change aspects  over Vázquez administration; and the furutre of the historical parties Colorado and Nacional and leaderships for 2010-2015.

Nelson Fernández is journalist since March 1981 and has served in newspapers, weeklies, radio stations and as foreign media correspondant. He is Economic Analyst and has a Degree on Economics from Instituto de Economía de Montevideo (IDEM). He is correspondant in Uruguay of La Nacion newspaper from Buenos Aires. He is columnist on politics and economics at the newspaper "El Observador" from Montevideo and the show "Tiempo Presente" at 770am Radio Oriental. He is director of journalistic programs at cable channel Nuevo Siglo TV. He is professor of "Written journalism" at Universidad Católica del Uruguay. On december 2004 he published the book "Quién es quien en El Gobierno de la Izquierda" and on december 2008 the book “¡Maldita Crisis!” (Editorial “Fin de Siglo”). He is officer of CADAL in Uruguay.

On his turn, Claudio Paolillo drew a profile of the new eastern president, his sector withing Frente Amplio and he referred to Mujica's Latin American mirror: Lula, Bachelet, Kirchner, Chávez?

Claudio Paolillo is director of the weekly "Busqueda" from Uruguay and author of the bestseller "Con los días contados", a book where he analyzes the crisis that Uruguay suffered during 2001-2002. Paolillo began working on journalism at the age of 17 and worked in several media outlets in Uruguay, among them: “El Día”, “Tiempo de Cambio”, “Opinar”, “Convicción”, Agence France Press, CX-30 La Radio, CX-14 El Espectador and Emisora del Palacio. He is Regional Vice-Chairman of IAPA, he was Associated Professor of Journalism at Universidad ORT in Uruguay, where in 1998 he was recognized with the award of “Teaching Excelence”.

The Forum was followed by a hundred people who overflowed the capacity of hotel AWA.

Participants to the Forum recieved an institutional brochure of the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America and a number of the magazine Perspectiva, revista latinoamericana de política, economía y sociedad that CADAL represents in Uruguay.

Foro Latinoamericano Punta del Este had a huge press coverage, with advertisments at El País newspaper and the weekly Búsqueda, and interviews in different radio stations such as FM Gente 107.1, Radio Maldonado 1.560 AM and FM Millenium 88.7 from Punta del Este and in both main newsshows of Punta del Este.

Nelson Fernández and Gabriel Salvia were interviewed in the show PUNTA ES on canal Once, host by journalists Leonardo Sarro and María Inés Machiñena, live from Parada 12 of La Mansa beach.

The Chairman and Officer of CADAL in Uruguay were also invited to the show ZONA VIVA on canal siete, host by journalist Miguel Mutto live from hotel Conrad of Punta del Este.

In every interview they announced the realization of the Foro Latinoamericano Punta del Este at Hotel Boutique AWA, they focused on current political issues and the new issue of magazine Perspectiva was announced.
