The future government in Uruguay

With the participation of political analysts Adolfo Garcé and Alfonso Lessa as guest speakers, CADAL organized at Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel a new meeting of Foro Latinoamericano Montevideo. The subjects analyzed during the meeting where: The future government: what can be expected; coincidencies and discrepancies in programatic platforms; If Mujica wins, increase changes, go for more... or keep reforms?; If Lacalle wins, a nineties reinstalation or adjustments to the current reforms?; roles and possibilities of Partido Colorado, Partido Independiente and Asamblea Popular. Previously, Nelson Fernández presented the Votes Intention Tendencies for 2009, a monitor by CADAL Uruguay.

Aside from businessmen and analysts, there were ambassadors in Uruguay from Canada, Switzerland and Romania at the forum and diplomats from Brazil, Spain, United States, Finland and Japan.

Adolfo Garcé García y Santos holds a Masters degree in Political Science and serves as researcher at Facultad de Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de la República. He is author of the book “Donde hubo fuego”. El proceso de adaptación del MLN-Tupamaros a la legalidad y a la competencia electoral (1985-2004). He is co-author of the book “La Era Progresista. El gobierno de izquierda en Uruguay: de las ideas a las políticas”. Líneas de investigación: “La adaptación del MLN-Tupamaros a la democracia y a la competencia electora”, “Apogeo, crisis y reconstrucción del Partido Comunista Uruguayo (1985-2009)”.

Alfonso Lessa holds a Ph.D. in Diplomacy and a Masters in Political Science, he is Journalistic manager of Channel 12 and political analyst for Telemundo 12 and "Código País", columnist at "El País" newspaper and professor of journalism at Universidad ORT. He is author of the book “La Revolución imposible” (Los tupamaros y el fracaso de la via armada en el Uruguay del siglo XX) and the book “Estado de Guerra” on the development of the coup d'etat of 1973.

Nelson Fernández is CADAL's representative in Uruguay, correspondant in Uruguay of "La Nación" newspaper, host of the TV show "Claves Políticas" at "NuevoSiglo TV", columnist at "El Observador" newspaper and the radio show "Tiempo Presente" (Radio Oriental). He is author of the book “Quien es quien en el gobierno de la izquierda” on the history of left parties in Uruguay, the access to government and the profile of the current leaders; and the book “¡Maldita Crisis!” on the financial crisis of 2008 and its historical backgrounds.
