Insecurity in Latin America

The magazine Perspectiva dedicated its 28th edition to the topic “Insecurity in Latin America,” addressing issues such as border tensions between states, terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime, and environmental challenges. The purpose of Perspectiva is to understand the typical features of insecurity in the region, how it develops, and what measures are taken -- both in the individual and multilateral sphere -- to confront and overcome this problem.

Contributors to the edition include recognized academics and experts: Hugo Acero (Colombia), international consultant in security issues; Simon Adams (United States), director of the Global Center for the Responsibility to Protect; Manuel José Bonett (Colombia), retired general of the Colombian Armed Forces; Sandra Borda (Colombia), professor at the University of the Andes; Jairo Delgado (Colombia), director of analysis at the Observatory of the Politics and Strategy of Latin America (OPEAL); Evan Ellis (United States), professor of security studies at the Center for the Defense of the Hemisphere; Cristián Garay Vera (Chile), researcher for the Center for Advanced Studies of the University of Santiago Chile; Andrés Molano-Rojas (Colombia), academic director of OPEAL; Martin Rodil (Venezuela), international consultant; Pedro Trujillo (Guatemala), director of the Institute of Political Studies and International Relations at the University of Francisco Marroquín; Richard Weitz (United States), senior fellow and director of the Center for Political-Military Analysis at the Hudson Institute.

Meanwhile, in the Latin American section, Argentine economist Martín Krause analyzes state reforms in Argentina, Ecuadorian researcher Xavier Andrade investigates "The Application of Import Substitution Policies in Ecuador and their Consequences," and an academic from CEDICE, Trino Márquez, analyzes "The Venezuelan Primaries."

In Topics and Debates, Spanish security expert Román Ortiz analyzes the discussion of Cuba's presence at the Summit of the Americas in "Cuba, the Summit of Cartagena and the Art of Double Standards," and Pablo Bello Arellano (Chile), Secretary General of the Latin American Association of the Centers of Research and Telecommunications Businesses (AHCIET), talks about the "The Digital Challenge of Latin America."
