Taking into account that Chile will the the honor guest country at the XVIII International Book Faire Cuba 2009, that will take place from February 12 to 22, the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL) claimed President Michell Bachelet that the embassy of her country in Havanna organize the presentation of the book ''Las Damas de Blanco: Las mujeres de los prisioneros de la primavera negra de Cuba” (Ladies in White: The women of the prisoners of the Cuban black spring) with the presence of its author, Chilean journalist Erika Lüters; the author of the prologue, the Chilean lawyer José Miguel Vivanco, Americas Director of Human Rights Watch; and the comments of the figures of the book, all of them relatives of Cuban political prisoners.
The book was previously presented in Santiago de Chile, with the comments of Senator and former Foreign Affairs Minister Soledad Alvear, who among other things said: "I believe that this history, that thanks to Erike we get to know, deserves to be told and diffused. Not only to be moved. But also so that with concrete actions we solidarize with these brave women".
In the letter presented to La Moneda, Gabriel Salvia, head of CADAL, expressed the following to the Chilean President: "we hope that as a democratic country with a exemplary political, economic and institutional performance in Latin America, Chile have a truly honorable presence at the International Book Faire Cuba 2009 with a favourable attitude to this request".
