CADAL is pleased to announce that Alejandro Anaya Muñoz, Marie-Laure Geoffray and Ignacio Labaqui join as members of the Academic Council of the organization.
Alejandro Anaya Muñoz is a professor in the Department of Socio-Political and Legal Studies (SOJ) and coordinator of the Master's Degree in Human Rights and Peace at ITESO, at Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara. He holds a doctorate in government and a master's degree in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights from University of Essex, England, and is a member of the National System of Researchers of the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (in Spanish, CONACYT). He is the author of three books and has written numerous articles in specialized magazines. Among his most recent books are Human Rights Crisis in Mexico, co-edited with Barbara Frey (Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania Press, 2018) and Derechos Humanos en y desde las Relaciones Internacionales (Mexico City, Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas, 2014). In recent years his research has focused on the transnational political dynamics surrounding human rights and the influence of the international human rights regime.
Also joining our Academic Council is Marie-Laure Geoffray, professor of Political Science at the Institut des Hautes Études de l'Amérique Latine (IHEAL), at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris, France), and researcher at the Center for the Study of the Americas (in Spanish, CREDA). She has a PhD in Political Science from Sciences Po (Paris, France), and was a postdoctoral researcher in the project "desiguALdades.net" at the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut at Freie Universität (Berlin, Germany). Since 2017, she is also a member of the French University Institute (IUF). Geoffray specializes in the study of the dynamics of protest in authoritarian contexts and in the processes of democratization. She has published the book Contestar à Cuba, and numerous articles in French, English and Spanish.
Ignacio Labaqui is also a new member of CADAL's Academic Council. Currently, he is professor of Latin American Politics and International Relations Theory at Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA), and of Comparative Regional Governance of the Master in International Studies at Universidad del CEMA. At the same time, he is a senior analyst at Medley Global Advisors. Labaqui holds a Master of Science in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science; and a degree in Political Science, with a specialization in International Relations, from UCA.
Directed by Sabrina Ajmechet, CADAL's Academic Council now has twenty-one outstanding members, each one a reference in their field. Its members are: Alejandro Anaya Muñoz, Andrés Cañizález, Marcelo Cavarozzi, Liliana De Riz, Sergio Fausto, Matías Franchini, Marie-Laure Geoffray, Carlos Gervasoni, Ignacio Labaqui, Magdalena López, Adrián Lucardi, Jaime Malamud Goti, Julio Montero, Patricio Navia, Marcos Novaro, Fernando J. Ruiz, Bernardo Sorj, Jorge M. Streb, Eduardo Ulibarri, Eduardo Viola and Loris Zanatta.
The incorporations of Anaya Muñoz, Geoffray and Labaqui are in line with CADAL's permanent commitment to enrich the public debate on human rights and international solidarity.
