PLEA 2011 “José Ignacio García Hamilton” kicked off

The program is intended for university students and recent graduates, with a total of 21 hours of class work, with the objective of analyzing the different aspects of democratic governance, economics and institutions in Latin America. Starting this year, the Latin American Program of Academic Extension bears the name of the lawyer, journalist, writer and National Representative from Tucumán, José Ignacio García Hamilton (1943-2009).

With a class in charge of Historian Ricardo López Göttig, professor of Universidad Di Tella and member of CADAL's Academic Council, on "José Ignacio García Hamilton and his analysis of authoritarianism and improductivity in Latin America", began the Latin American Program of Academic Extension 2011. Starting this year, the Latin American Program of Academic Extension bears the name of the lawyer, journalist, writer and National Representative from Tucumán, José Ignacio García Hamilton (1943-2009). The opening of the program was in charge of Graciela García Hamilton.

The program is intended for university students and recent graduates, with a total of 21 hours of class work, with the objective of analyzing the different aspects of democratic governance, economics and institutions in Latin America. The participants receive reading material in different formats and can apply for the Award "José Ignacio García Hamilton" through the writing of an original text on democracy, economics and/or institutions in the regional, sub-regional or country level. The award consists on a paid internship or fellowship of AR$1.000.- to cooperate as Research Assistant of CADAL for a period of two months.

Besides from Ricardo López Göttig, the other speakers are Tomás Linn (Universidad de Montevideo, Uruguay), Bernabé García Hamilton (Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina), Pablo Guido (Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Guatemala), Gonzalo Bustamante Kuschel (Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Chile), Patricio Navia (New York University, USA / Universidad Diego Portales, Chile), Fernando J. Ruiz (Universidad Austral, Argentina), Marcelo Loprete (Director Consejo Académico de CADAL), Ignacio Labaqui (Universidad Católica Argentina), Gabriel Palumbo (Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina), Gabriel C. Salvia (Director General de CADAL, Argentina), Adolfo Garcé (Universidad de la República, Uruguay), Raúl Ferro (Business News Americas) y Carlos Gervasoni (Universidad Di Tella, Argentina).
