Diana Arévalo
Consultant on Freedom of Artistic Expression
Professional in Government and International Relations from the Externado de Colombia University. Master in International Studies at the University of CEMA. In 2015 she completed a Postgraduate Course in Cultural Management and Communication at FLACSO in Buenos Aires. In 2016 she completed a Diploma in Human Rights, Pedagogy of Memory and Cultural Policies at the Henry Dunant Foundation in Santiago de Chile. Between March and August 2016 she did an internship as an international intern at CADAL, in July 2017 she joined as Project Assistant and between 2019 and 2020 she was Coordinator and then Director of cultural projects. In July 2020, she became part of the Freemuse team, a Danish organization whose mission is to defend freedom of artistic expression in the world, playing the role of Campaigner for Latin America. From February 2021 to March 2022, she was the Campaigns and Advocacy Officer for Latin America in the same organization.

Artists killed in Latin America for exercising their freedom of artistic expression
This is an executive summary of the original report produced in Spanish that focuses only on violence against artists, like targeted killings related to the exercise of their right to freedom of expression and artistic creativity in Latin America. In 2021, CADAL recorded 378 attacks on freedom of artistic expression, of which 23 were murders. Artists and cultural workers who participated in protests in Colombia and Cuba were harassed, detained, and repressed. Musicians and cultural leaders were also involved in the violence between organized crime groups in countries such as Mexico and Brazil.

Artistas asesinados en América Latina por el ejercicio de la libertad de expresión artística
El presente informe se enfoca en los asesinatos de artistas, estrictamente relacionados con el ejercicio de la libertad de expresión artística en América Latina. En 2021, CADAL registró 378 ataques a la libertad de expresión artística, de los cuales 23 fueron asesinatos. Los artistas y trabajadores de la cultura, que participaron en protestas en Colombia y Cuba fueron hostigados, detenidos y reprimidos. Asimismo, músicos y líderes culturales quedaron atrapados en la violencia entre grupos del crimen organizado en países como México y Brasil.
