The 2018 edition of the Program Good Bye Lenin, aimed at young students and recent graduates, took place from the 5th to the 16th of November at CADAL.
The program consisted of 10 two-hour classes and had 25 participants from different universities.
The first two classes were given by the historian Ricardo López Göttig about the construction of socialism in Central and Eastern Europe, the collapse of real socialism and the velvet and iron transitions.
The third class was delivered by Olaf Jacob, representative in Argentina of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, who gave a first-hand account on the 29th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
In the fourth class, Gabriel Salvia, General Director of CADAL, analyzed the case of Cuba and if the Berlin Wall had fallen in Latin America.
The topic of the fifth class was journalism and dissidence in communist dictatorships, and was led by Fernando Ruiz, journalism and democracy professor.
Professor Tomás Várnagy presented a brief history of the URSS and satellite countries through political satire, the topic of the sixth class.
In the seventh class, HE Yurii Diudin, Ukrainian ambassador in Argentina, and historian Gustavo Sterczek gave the presentation Ukraine against Soviet totalitarianism: more than 70 years of struggle.
For the eight class, journalist Ignacio Hutin referred to the topic of his book: Deconstruction: Thoughts and Lessons from a post-communist Eastern Europe (Decontruccion: Crónicas y reflexiones desde la Europa Oriental poscomunista).
The ninth class had the participation of HE Carmen Podgorean, Romanian ambassador in Argentina, who presented Romania behind the iron curtain: a less-than-linear path.
In the last class, HE Irakli Kurashvili, Georgian ambassador in Argentina, gave a presentation about Georgia: from failed country to modern state.
Next to Sybil Rhodes, president of CADAL, and HE Irakli Kurashvili, these 5 young participants received as a prize an edition of the book Havel: A Life, by Michael Žantovský, for having attended all 10 classes: José Manuel Rodríguez Torrez (UCEMA), María Guillermina Frigerio (UCA), Nicolás Font (UP), Agustina Baez (UCA) y Alejandro Di Franco (UCA).
