Argentina has a federal and republican democratic system, and its main support is the division of powers. Its Constitution incorporates international human rights treaties that oblige the Argentine state to guarantee civil and political, economic, social, cultural and environmental rights, among others. The exercise of these rights was foreign during important periods of our contemporary history, dominated in the last century by authoritarian governments. This autocratic political legacy confuses liberal democracy with electoral majorities, and understands the issue of human rights almost exclusively linked to violations committed by state terrorism.
This initiative focuses on institutional quality in general, with special emphasis on the situation of the independence of powers, and in particular judicial independence; the general situation of Civil and Political Rights; publicity of the legislative process; and the situation in the Provinces with autocratic features.
